The Markham Skating Club has been providing skating programs to the local community for over 40 years.  We are a non-profit organization that is run by a group of dedicated board members and taught by our skilled & nationally qualified professional coaching staff.

Fee Payment

Applications will not be processed unless accompanied by the appropriate fees. 
Acceptable payments are as follows:
Cash - payment in full at time of registration.  
Cheque - 4 installments, September 1, October 15, December 15 and January 15.
Visa or MasterCard - 2 installments September 1 and December 15.

All skaters wishing to participate in private coaching, Skate Canada testing or competitions of any kind must be "Members in Good Standing",( i.e., paid in full).  Payments to professional coaches for private lessons are not the responsibility of the MSC and are to be arranged between skater, parent and professional coach.
 

   

 

Refunds

A fee of $25.00 will be charged for any cancellation of membership prior to the start of skating.  There will be no refunds except for medical reasons or special circumstances approved by the MSC Board of executives.
 
   

 

NSF Cheques

A NSF fee of $25.00 may be levied for any NSF cheques received which must be replaced with a certified cheque or other guaranteed for of payment.  Failure to pay within 30 days will result in membership cancellation.

Behaviour and Attitude

Any skater interfering with or endangering the safety of the other members or staff will be asked to leave the rink immediately.  Recurring disciplinary actions may be grounds for membership cancellation. The club reserves the right to cancel or decline memberships.
 
   

 

Safety

Skate guards are to be worn at all times unless you are on the rubber mat at the rink entrance or on the ice.  This is not only a safety regulation but also a sensible practice to protect your skate blades.  Please use the dressing rooms at all times and keep the lobby free of skating apparel.
 
   

 

Skate Canada 

Skate Canada requires that all skaters must be registered as members in good standing by September 1.  Current insurance coverage expires August 31.  Skaters not in good standing will not be insured by Skate Canada and will not allowed to skate at any MSC sanctioned activity (E.G.. Synchronized Skating Sessions, Competitions or any other Skate Canada  sanctioned events).
 
   

 

Family Discounts

Family discounts are available for families with  2 or more skaters (in one immediate family) a five percent (5%) discount is applied to the second highest membership; a ten percent (10%) discount is applied to the third and subsequent membership.

Referral Discounts: A 5% discount will be applied to your membership if you refer a skater who registers for a full session.

Alumni Fee

This particular membership is reserved for former MSC home club members who reside out of town, e.g., at University, and who qualify for Advanced Sessions.  Skaters will be limited to a maximum of 10 skating sessions per Winter Season.
 
   

 

Test Day Fees

In addition to the Skate Canada test fee, each skater taking tests will be assessed an additional $7.00 in total (not per test taken) for each set of test days.  This additional fee is to help cover the cost of traveling expenses (which the judges are entitled to receive) and the catering of the food for the judges.  The Skate Canada  test fees do not cover these expenses.
 
   

 

Coaches

A professional Coach is an adult coach on staff at MSC and in Charge of group lessons.  A private coach is one of the professionals with whom you have made individual arrangements. You will be billed separately for lessons given by your private coach and are responsible for paying these on a timely basis.  A listing of the professional staff can be found on the "Coaches Page".

Guest Skaters

Guest skaters are welcome at MSC under the following conditions: a $15.00 fee per skate will be apply, limited to 4 sessions in each half of the Fall/Winter Season (September - March).  Skaters must inform the office and obtain a fee envelope to deposit the fee prior to skating.  Skaters who qualify for Novice, Junior Senior and Advanced Sessions will be eligible and must be current Skate Canada members. 
 
   

 

Costume Rental

All of the costumes from our ice shows are available for rent to other skating clubs, schools, dance studios and the general public through the Markham Skating Club costume rental business.  The revenue from the rentals helps to subsidize future Ice Shows.
