Farewell
to Interclub
By Roo
Guilherme
MSC skaters
had the chance to show the club their new tricks and programs this past week at
the annual MSC Club Competition, held on Saturday, December 6th, 2003. But this
year was a particularly special club competition due to the fact that Central
Ontario Section has decided to phase out the Interclub Stream starting next
season. This means the 7 Interclubs: Metro East, Metro West, Midway East, Midway
West, NorthEast, NorthWest and Western areas of COS will cease to exist as local
qualifying areas. In a recent mailing from the COS office, it stated the reason
for the cancellation of Interclub were due to a lack of resources and volunteers
to continue the successes of past Interclubs. It was also becoming increasingly
difficult for the judges to schedule these events into their calendars because
many of the Interclubs were held on the same weekends. COSIC (The Sectional
Championships) will become an open-invitational meaning gone are the ways of
placing in the top-2 at Interclub to earn the right of competing in the
Sectional Finals. Next season, anyone can enter COSIC and the competition will
weed down the potentially large number of entrants with qualifying rounds in the
beginning of the competition. So be sure to visit the Leaside Skating Club on
January 24th, 25th and 26th to cheer on Markham’s last Interclub team. It’ll
be a moment to remember.
